Felicity Jones (born Felicity Rose Hadley Jones on October 17, 1983) is an English actress hailing from Bourneville part of Birmingham, England. She was quite young when her parents divorced. Jones and her brother stayed with their mother who worked at a print advertising company. It was through her mother that Jones developed interest in arts. As a child, her mother would take Felicity and her brother to movies and theaters. Before her teenage years, she joined a drama club at the Custard Factory.
Her first project was in the 1996 film The Treasure Seekers which also starred Keira Knightley. She was then 12. At 15, she joined the cast of the hit radio program The Archers playing the role of Emma Grundy. She then went on to star in a number of TV projects including The Worst Witch in 2001 as well as its spin-off, Weirdsister College. During her formative years, Jone took a short break from acting to focus on her studies. While studying English at Wadham College, Oxford, she also starred in a few plays, including Attis. And Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors for the OUDS with actor Harry Lloyd.
After graduating in 2006, Jones has worked steadily appearing in a number of films including Northanger Abbey (2007) and Brideshead Revisited (2008) The following year, she landed a role in the period comedy Cheri working with Michell Pfeiffer and Kathy Bathers.
In 2010, she appeared in the big screen adaptation of Julie Taymor’s The Tempest.
On January 29, 2011 at the Sundance Film Festival, Felicity bagged the Special Jury Prize for her performance in the Indie drama Like Crazy directed by Drake Doremus which also won the festival’s Grand Jury Prize.
Jones went on to appear in several other projects. She filmed Chalet Girl, in March 2011, a romantic comedy movie alongside Ed Westwick and Brooke Shields, for which she had to take ski training for two months. She appeared in the drama Hysteria which chronicles the invention of the vibrator. In the same year, she has also signed a modeling contract with Dolce and Gabbana and became the face of Burberry.
In 2013, Jones and her boyfriend of ten years, Ed Fornieles, went on separate ways. He is a sculptor and internet artist. They met in Oxford when he was at Ruskin School of Art.
2014 is perhaps one of the highlights of Felicity’s career. Her performance in the film The Theory of Everything (2014) earned great attention garnering her Best Actress Golden Globe and Oscar nomination. In the movie, she played the character of Jane Hawking, the first wife of genius physicist Stephen Hawking portrayed by Eddie Redmayne.
Felicity was chosen to play the part of Jyn Erso in the hit Star Wars follow up Rogue One: A Star Wars in 2015 which launched the next year. She was also cast in the film adaptation of Dan Brown’s novel Inferno co-starring Tom Hanks. The film was released in October 2016.
