Naomi Campbell was born in London, England to a mother of Jamacian heritage and an unnamed father with a mixed background that includes Chinese.
Her first cover shoot was for Elle Magazine in 1986. In 1988 she was the first black model to appear on the cover of French Vogue. All told she has graced the cover of more than 500 magazines and has walked the catwalk for countless fashion giants like Gianni Versace, Ralph Lauren and Valentino. She has also posed nude for Playboy magazine and appeared in Madonna’s 1992 book, Sex, in a set of photos with Madonna and rapper Big Daddy Kane.
She had a long and bitter fued with Tyra Banks but the two reconcilled on Banks’ television show in 2005.
Cambpell has worked as an actress, appearing in a dozen or so movies and television series, usually playing a model or some really hot babe. In 1994 she wrote a novel entitled Swan although she later admitted that the book was almost entirely ghost written because she didn’t have the time to actually write it. Aside from modeling, she is best known for her appearances in music videos like Michael Jackson’s “Keep it in the Closet” and George Michael’s “Freedom! 90”.
